As a part of the National strategy for literacy promotion (2014-2020), the Ministry of Education and Science is organizing National Reading Week, December 7-12, 2015.

The strategy is focused on overcoming the causes for low literacy levels. It focuses on some risk groups: 1) people with low income which results in limiting their opportunities and dropping away their motivation; 2) some bilingual individuals with lower language proficiency, the latter being a crucial obstacle for acquiring education; 3) some Roma people, by which the low income level and the low language proficiency interfere their education. The National strategy focuses on the creation of a literacy promoting environment, especially related to a range of new technologies and the role of devoted educators and teachers.
